Electrical Designer - Rail

What you'll be doing

Create and implement design solutions for the Traction Business.

Ensure integration, technical assurance, compliance, health, safety, and sustainability of design and engineering to enable a compliant, defect-free handover for operational service, delivered on time and within budget.

Coordinate with the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor, ensuring regular information flow to meet CDM requirements.

Develop specifications, datasheets, calculations, schedules, and drawings.

Review and check vendor documents and information for electrical compliance with project specifications.

Support the Design Manager and contribute to design and construction reviews and signoffs.

Ensure design risks are considered and prepare design risk assessments, communicating residual design risks to relevant parties.

Develop and implement Power Systems Traction design proposals, ensuring they meet client requirements, including budget constraints, and present proposals for client approval.

Oversee the design and delivery of design and assurance on one or more projects, ensuring compliance with the latest standards, project technical work scope, and relevant company processes.

Develop the design deliverables program.

Ensure program commitments are met and take action to establish priorities and address problems regarding timescales when required.

Provide effective reporting on design status and key design issues.

Who we're looking for

A degree (or equivalent) in an Electrical discipline is required and professional membership of IET is desirable.

Detailed knowledge of codes of practice, in particular designer duties and responsibilities under CDM and other regulatory requirements.

Understanding of electrical engineering principles.

Valid Driving Licence

Previous experience in AC and DC power design on mainline and third rail systems.

Understanding of customer design management processes.

Ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing.
