Your new company Our client is a well-known, internationalmultidisciplinary consultancy based in Glasgow. Their team of highly-qualifiedmechanical and electrical engineers have many years of experience in allaspects of building services engineering: from preliminary planning andconstruction management to supplementary services upon completion. Theirclients operate throughout the Aviation, Energy, Cities and Development,Education, Transportation and Defence sectors. They are seeking atechnically strong Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who thrives managing staffand assisting with team coordination. They offer a flexiblemixture of home-working and office/site collaboration time expected. Part-timework is also a possibility. Our client's Net Zeromechanical team has a focus on diversifying the energy mix in the UK and elsewhere. This includes powergeneration (from gas, biomass, hydro and energy transition, natural gas cavernstorage, hydrogen (production & cavern storage), and industrialdecarbonisation.This is a great opportunity to join a well-establishedorganisation that can offer you the access and support you need to aid yourlearning and development. You will be expected to run your own projects,working through the RIBA stages as well as working as part of a larger team.The office has a relaxed, flexible culture and regular social incentives takeplace.Your new role You'll play a key partin the Mechanical team and will be expected to lead projects and mentor juniorteam members. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.
  • Leading technical aspects of mechanical engineering projects from optioneering through to detailed design.
  • Carry out (and managing of others) the production of detailed calculations using industry standard software tools
  • Preparing technical specifications
  • Collaborate with our BIM team to prepare models and drawings, with a working understanding of Autodesk Revit.
  • Representing the organisation at meetings with clients and contractors.
  • Site surveys, inspections and monitor site works.
  • Report and technical note writing.
  • Maintaining complete records and archives to company standards.
  • Managing own workload, updating forward plan of workload regularly and working to time allocations.
  • Managing elements of project delivery and an understanding of budget costings.
  • Reviewing progress, including reporting any anomalies and changes of scope to the project lead.
  • Assist with technical development of junior staff.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Master's degree (MEng/MSc) qualified Mechanical Engineer.
  • Chartered Engineer and a member of IMechE is desirable.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (power, chemical, oil & gas, etc) is desirable.
  • Good level of computer literacy with industry standard software
  • Familiar with energy reduction methods and approaches to decarbonising new and existing buildings.
  • Some knowledge of energy related contracts and funding mechanisms.
  • Understanding of energy and carbon related data capture and analytics.
  • Awareness of the principles of building physics
  • Competent in designing for measurement and verification
  • Detailed knowledge of appropriate technical standards.
  • Able to take charge of project deliverables
  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • Attending meetings with clients
  • Comfortable working within time and cost budgets

Examples of beneficial technical experience are:

  • Pipe stress analysis.
  • Equipment specification and engineering specification writing.
  • Pressure part design calculations.
  • Plant layout design.
  • Checking and providing assurance of deliverables.
