About the Role:
Belkavitz Sloan, a leading recruitment agency specialising in the steel sector, is working on behalf of a prominent client in the structural steel fabrication and construction industry. We are currently seeking a skilled Buyer to join our client's expanding Builders Merchants/construction business. The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing goods, materials, and services to meet operational needs and customer requirements, with a focus on price, quality, and delivery to ensure a continuous supply chain. This role is crucial in contributing to the team, adding value, reducing costs, and supporting sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Purchase goods, materials, components, and services.
  • Liaise with other departments and communicate any supply issues that may impact business operations.
  • Monitor and advise on any risks or opportunities for the business.
  • Keep up to date with market trends, competitor strategies, and supplier developments.
  • Monitor stock levels.
  • Provide cost analysis on new and existing products and review cost reduction activities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Merchant Shop Manager/Construction Team to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and growth.
  • Negotiate improved processes and terms of business with suppliers, and identify opportunities for business savings.
  • Attend fairs, events, meetings, and exhibitions to stay informed on new and existing products and seasonal market trends.
  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines, purchasing policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct research on new products and suppliers.

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills with a proactive and pragmatic approach to work.
  • Ability to work under pressure and confidence in decision-making.
  • Ability to prioritise a demanding and varied workload.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Buyer.
  • Previous experience within a Builders Merchants or Construction products environment is essential.
  • A CIPS qualification or working towards CIPS would be highly desirable.
