Our client Scottish Power Transmissions are currently recruiting for a Sustainability Advisor to join their team based in Cambuslang on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for a candidate with a strong background in sustainability work and has good knowledge of legislation and policy influencing carbon. With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the Transmission Commercial team will play a key role in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.

A Sustainability Advisor ensures continued implementation and improvement of our sustainability goals by providing specialist knowledge and advice to internal and external stakeholders including Senior Project Managers, our Environmental teams and colleagues within Engineering & Construction.

What you'll be doing

This position is located within the Transmission Projects team to deliver, monitor and review Environmental and Sustainability commitments. In this role, you will:

• Provide support and advice to project teams prior to and throughout construction period
• Develop and implement new methods, techniques and practices to improve sustainability performance
• Supporting strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across SP Transmission
• Undertaking environmental cost benefit analyses
• Baselining and analysis of material use and circular economy
• Managing and analysing data and supporting project level sustainability processes
• Impact analysis of new legislation, regulations and standards
• Engaging / communicating with internal and external stakeholders
• Supporting with regulatory report submissions
• Supporting the delivery of pilot sustainability projects or innovation trials
• Support the delivery of our RIIO-2 Environmental Action Plan.

What you'll bring

• Advanced analytical and data management skills.
• Knowledge of a range of sustainability topics including Science Based Targets, the Net Zero transition, circular economy, biodiversity and natural capital accounting and carbon offsetting.
• Awareness of general work activities carried out by an electricity network operator
• Demonstrable experience of working in a collaborative team and taking initiative / ownership of individual tasks
• Well-developed report writing and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of legislation and policy influencing carbon, the circular economy and climate change.
• Experience of working in a multi-project environment with time constrained and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
• Interpersonal skills – must be able to quickly form effective working relationships at all levels, up to and including Directors and external stakeholders
• Experience of monitoring environmental and performance metrics against project deliverables.

Minimum Criteria:
• A degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline e.g. sustainability, environmental or engineering
• Understanding of the Utilities Industry
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc).
• Full UK driving licence with no penalties and/or convictions
