THE BUSINESS


Major IT & Digital have partnered with one of the UKs leading design, manufacture and retail distribution businesses within the semiconductor market.


Operating from a Glasgow location the business produces over 50% of all control and design systems across a worldwide client base.


The company achieved over £20m UK turnover last year with continued growth plans for worldwide distribution of the companys unique systems design and software / hardware solutions.


As part of continued expansion within the development team, they have immediate requirements for a mid or senior software design engineer to join a small and well-established team to work on new and exciting development projects.


THE ROLE


Working within a small design and development team you will influence and shape my clients inhouse products through new design and developing interfaces with new electronics and machinery.


You will be directly involved in the specification and design of software applications and controlling both the automation and machine interfaces.


You will have full autonomy of project completion from inception to delivery, contributing to the full product life cycle.


*Due to the nature of the work involved this is an office based role!


THE PERSON


Ideally degree educated in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Electronics engineering with at least 5 years commercial experience in a similar role

Extensive experience in the design and development of software for automation and control of machinery background

Must have a solid understanding of designing applications using LabVIEW and PLC

Advanced knowledge of hardware integration and industrial communication (EtherCAT, TwinCAT, CANopen preferred)

Ability to interact with customers during design and post-sales support

Ability to work with all stakeholders / departments to identify problems and develop solutions to maximise quality

Able to work in a fast-paced environment and open to continuous learning and keeping up to date with the latest technologies and changes


Desirable skills:

Stepper motors and variable frequency drives

C, C#, C++ or Python software languages

User interface design

Schematic design

P4V version control

E3 electrical engineering software
