Our client, an Ofsted-rated outstanding school, specialises in the education of looked-after children (LAC) aged 11–17. They are seeking a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to assist with delivering a broad curriculum, including subjects like Science, Humanities, and Languages, along with literacy and numeracy when needed.

The students, who live in residential care homes, face a variety of complex challenges due to social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties (SEMH).

As an HLTA, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high-quality, tailored learning experiences under the guidance of senior education staff
  • Contributing to personalised education plans by regularly communicating with the education team and care staff about each student's progress and needs
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young people in your care

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent)
  • The ability to relate well to young people with additional needs; experience working with SEN is advantageous, though personal experience is highly relevant and a good character fit is key
  • Ideally, a valid Team Teach certificate (training can be provided if necessary)
  • Resilience, patience, and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations
  • The ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Confidence, passion, and motivation to make a difference
  • A strong awareness of safeguarding practices and a commitment to following protocols
