An exciting interim opportunity has arisen for a Chief Accountant to join our client in the public sector's strong finance team for a period of up two months starting in January. We are seeking an individual with robust technical skills and experience in statutory financial statements.

Role: Interim Chief Accountant

Day rate: £350-400

Working Arrangement: Hybrid / Fully Remote

Up to 4 days per week, can flex for the right candidate

Day to Day Tasks:

  • Lead the annual closedown process and production of accounting statements.
  • Liaise with external auditors, ensuring timely and positive audit reports.
  • Communicate complex financial matters to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Provide support and advice to Asset Accountants
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and accounting standards.
  • Act as the main point of contact for External Auditors.
  • Advise on the implications of changes in government policy or accounting requirements.
  • Deputise for the Head of Financial Management or Director of Finance as needed.

Requirements:

  • Full CCAB qualification and membership in a relevant professional body.
  • Experience in public sector with strong understanding of local accounts.
  • Significant experience in auditing financial statements for large, complex organisations, either from within the organisation or as an external auditor.

  • Experienced in using advanced computerized financial systems and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
