Interim Clerk of Works

Location: Gloucestershire (95% Site-Based)
Length: 6 months
Rate: 35-48 per hour dependent on experience

Our client, a local authority in Gloucestershire, is seeking an experienced Interim Clerk of Works to oversee the quality inspection of highway and transport infrastructure projects. This role is critical in ensuring construction compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and best practices while maintaining high-quality standards across all works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site-based quality inspections of new highway and transport infrastructure, ensuring compliance with approved plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Prepare and manage works programmes, ensuring timely monitoring and reporting.
  • Provide expert advice to Councillors, local stakeholders, and the public on highway-related matters.
  • Produce daily detailed reports, identifying remedial work and any non-compliance issues.
  • Oversee traffic management layouts and advise on construction methods to minimise network disruption in collaboration with the Streetworks Team.
  • Ensure all construction aligns with the Council's Technical Specification for New Roads, the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, and statutory requirements including NRSWA 1991 and TMA 2004.

About You

  • Significant experience in new development construction standards and on-site construction operations.
  • Strong background in record keeping, report writing, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working on high-profile infrastructure projects, including negotiations with third-party developers and liaising between multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate with Councillors and the public, managing expectations effectively.
  • Knowledge of Section 278, 38, and 106 Agreements (desirable).
  • Understanding of highways planning and development legislation (desirable).
  • HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • CSCS Card (essential).
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
  • Membership of the Institute of Clerk of Works (preferred).
