My client is looking for a skilled EDM Machinist/Spark Eroder to set up and operate multiple EDM machines in line with the delivery requirements of the business, ensuring that products are produced efficiently; that they are of the right quality, quantity, and cost.

Responsibilities

  • Set the machines using the set-up sheets, tooling/fixtures and Edgecam programs provided by the Production Engineering Department.
  • Work to the priorities of the “Work to List” or as “Set Out” by Production Supervision.
  • Run the EDM/Wire machines in line with the programs and monitor performance to ensure the cycle time meets the estimated costed time given to the works traveler.
  • Carry out cycle inspection of the parts produced, using micrometers, verniers and coordinate measuring machine reports. Where required the completion of an Actual Dimensional Report Sheet (ADRS) required for each part may need to be completed.
  • Where changes are necessary, provide feedback to Production Engineering by completing a Program Prove Out Improvement Request when CNC Programs / Tooling / Set Up Sheets need correcting or can be improved.
  • Ensure good and professional communication is maintained with your opposite shift machinist during shift handover.
  • Ensuring non-conforming parts are reported immediately, with root cause analysis, documented and given to the Machine Shop Supervisor.
  • Attention to detail ensures that parts meet strict specifications, directly contributing to the reliability and safety of final products. Additionally, you uphold safety protocols and work effectively within team settings, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous improvement and productivity.
  • It is expected that the operator will support the work of the company apprenticeship program & on the job training when needed.
  • Ensure the tooling, jigs and fixtures are stocked and in working order at all times

Qualifications & Requirements– EDM Machinist  

  • Operate and control EDM machines and other equipment in the machine shop, following relevant procedures.
  • Read and understand CNC machine code to the level necessary for machine setup and operation.
  • Comprehend setup parameters and their impact on the machining process, including datum setting and tool length and wear offsets.
  • Set up machines with the appropriate work holding and tooling, adhering to relevant procedures.
  • Perform machining operations efficiently as per Job Card instructions to meet required output levels.
  • Able to operate EDM machines/ Electro Discharge machines/ wire machines
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experienced in all aspects of workshop practice.
  • Experience in all aspects of EDM/Wire setting and Improvement of processes.
  • Experience and knowledge in working with Duplex and Nickel Alloy Materials.
  • Good numerical and literacy skills to do metric conversions from engineering part drawings.
  • Experience of parts inspections using gauges
  • Ability to run multiple similar machines.
