Long - Term teachers are working with an alternative provision Gloucester, who are seeking an experienced kitchen assistant to join their fantastic team on a permanent basis.

We are seeking applicants, who have previous experience of working in a secondary school setting, with this being a specialist environment, you must be familiar with working with students who have special educational needs. These needs include Social, Emotional Mental Health needs, in addition to behaviour that challenges. The ideal candidate will have a Level 2 qualification in Food Safety.

You will be contracted to work Monday to Friday, between the hours of 11am - 2pm. There may be an opportunity to work additional hours, or support in after school and breakfast club.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Preparation of the dining area for service, which may include moving and/or setting up furniture and trolleys, cleaning putting away after service
  • Preparation the service area, hot cupboards and other equipment as instructed.
  • Wash dishes, cutlery, tumblers, jugs, serving utensils, containers, tables and all other catering equipment in the catering environment.
  • Clean catering areas to regulated standards as directed.
  • To assist in the serving of meals in line with agreed procedures.
  • To encourage social skills and good table manners, ensuring safety with knives and forks.
  • To clean up spillages of food and to organise clearing cutlery and crockery off tables.
  • To carry out the washing up of food utensils and crockery etc. and to store items in a clean an efficient manner.
  • To understand, and ensure the implementation of statutory Health and Safety policies, Environmental Health requirements and emergency and fire procedures.
  • To ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, providing emotional support where necessary.
  • Promoting and ensuring good behaviour and calm atmosphere.
  • Reporting any misbehaviour that may occur in accordance with the school’s Behaviour Policy.
  • Addressing issues calmly and politely and in doing so being a role model to the children.
  • Report as appropriate any incidents to the senior members of staff.
