SALARY: £25,079 - £27,079 pro rata + Benefits (25 days Annual Leave plus Bank Holidays, Pension)

LOCATION: Central Office Hub in Gloucester, Gloucestershire (GL1) with travel to other community settings across the county

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Fixed Term Contract until March 2027 (subject to funding)

WORKING HOURS: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.30pm

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Youth Worker / Mentorwith experience of mentoring, supporting and/or working with young people with mental health needs, disadvantaged backgrounds or similar, who has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

As the Youth Worker / Mentor you will help provide one to one therapeutic and practical support to young people aged 14-25 with mental health needs, addressing the challenges in their lives and ensuring long-term sustainable outcomes.

Working as the Youth Worker / Mentor you will help maintain a quality service to young people, collecting and reviewing data to ensure projects are meeting KPIs, maintaining accurate records and overseeing the control, servicing and maintenance of equipment. You will also take responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of young people with specific safeguarding duties.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Youth Worker / Mentor will include:

  • Work with young people aged 14-25 supporting them with all areas of their mental health
  • Work alongside counselling team to provide holistic support to young people
  • Deliver a therapeutic mental health support and advice service that assists young people’s mental health
  • Provide a range of practical solutions to assist young people in sustained outcomes for their mental health, this includes addressing challenges with young people such as housing, relationships, debt, financial management, physical activity, education and training
  • Find positive ways to engage young people to raise aspirations and long-term outcomes
  • Advocate on behalf of the young person where needed with other agencies organisations
  • Be the trusted person to ensure that a young person always has someone to turn to and engage with in a time of need
  • Provide weekly consistent engagement and support
  • Support young people to engage in other services where appropriate
  • Undertake needs analysis with young people to identify their needs and refer to appropriate services
  • Identify appropriate young people to complete qualifications to further their opportunities to positive progressions
  • Provide regular reporting on the activities’ progress
  • Carry out regular risk assessments of all activities prior to delivery
  • Ensure safeguarding of young people
  • Ensure the use of established recording and monitoring computerised systems
  • Assessing referrals that are received and identifying needs
  • Identifying what level of support is needed - low, medium or high intervention

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Experience and/or knowledge of mentoring or working with young people
  • An appropriate professional qualification in a relevant field
  • Experience or knowledge of working with volunteers
  • Good at sourcing and building relationships with key partners from the charity, statutory and business sectors
  • Ability to be a positive role model for young people
  • A background in supporting and motivating individuals to achieve their potential
  • Experience of leading public presentation/training/meetings
  • Evidence of recent commitment to personal professional development
  • High level of communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, including experience of writing accurate and concise reports
  • Experience of working on own initiative to an agreed action plan
  • Understanding and promotion of equal opportunities in both staff and client work
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team with shared and overlapping objectives
  • Ability to support members of an extended, geographically diverse team
  • Clean current Driving licence
  • A "can-do" approach
  • Enthusiasm, stamina and a willingness to work flexibly with some unsociable hours when necessary
