We are currently recruiting for Vehicle Technicians on behalf of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
We operate a diverse fleet of vehicles ranging from light commercial vehicles to 26t refuse collection vehicles and gritting vehicles along with multiple types of plant equipment (mowing machines, road rollers and land-trains)
We require vehicle technicians with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to carry out pre planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and complex repairs on light commercial vehicles (predominantly Volkswagen), HGV's (predominantly Renault Trucks), refuse collection vehicles (Dennis Eagle), salt spreading equipment (Schmidt Stratos 2&3).
Principal Accountabilities:
- To ensure administration is undertaken for all work and recorded in line with the expectations of the Traffic Commissioner
- Deliver systems which ensure vehicle and operator compliance
- Undertake repairs and maintenance for all the Authorities vehicles
- Utilise the MOT and Taxi Testing ensuring equipment is suitable and correctly adjusted
- Ensure the quality control regime required to be undertaken by the MOT Inspectors is up to date.
- Operate software e.g.Transform to check vehicle history and outstanding job requirements
- Operational use of Tracker system to identify vehicle position to expedite repairs.
- Operational management of Tachograph systems and other compliance procedures including the monitoring of the digital tachograph downloads during service.
- Security of data, ensuring compliance with data security guidelines
- Assist in preparation of tendering and contract management of use of external resources for vehicle maintenance services
- To be aware of legislation that impacts on the Council's Operational Licences.
- Provide advice and liaise with other bodies to ensure full understanding and agreement on specific proposals or issues.
- Identify asset needs and develop specific solutions
- Carry out detailed investigations of vehicle queries and developments, determine appropriate response and actions and provide technical reports as appropriate
- Supervision of the workload of junior staff and external contractors to ensure delivery of the Council's programmes of works within financial guidelines
- Record accurate, timely and relevant information and ensure that wherever possible misunderstandings or disputes are readily resolved with contractors, other agencies and the public
- Ensure that all works are carried out in a safe, sustainable and effective manner
- Assist with the undertaking of service performance consultations with specific user
- Any duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grade and level of responsibility of the post.

Essential Criteria:
* NVQ/City & Guilds Level 2 (or equivalent) in motor vehicle related subjects with the willingness to work towards Level 3.
* Experienced in vehicle maintenance
* In depth knowledge of vehicle maintenance, vehicle mechanical and electrical repairs including the use of diagnostic software
* Good understanding of Health and Safety
* Analytical skills in respect of systems and vehicle faults
* Clear logical communicator, able to deliver information clearly both written and verbally
* Is clear, thorough and accurate and is able to deliver positive results
* Excellent problem solving skills
* Is able to prioritise workloads to deal with changing customer demands
* Is a team player but equally can work using own initiative
* Is open, honest and trustworthy
* Willing to work shifts
* Driving Licence
* Ability to carry out duties with or without adaptations
Desirable Criteria:
* NVQ/City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in motor vehicle related subjects
* Experience in both light and heavy vehicle maintenance
* Knowledge of Operator Licence requirements
* Advanced skills in the use of diagnostic equipment
* IOSH Managing/Working Safely Qualification (or equivalent)
* LGV Category C licence
* Driver CPC Qualification
* MOT Nominated Tester, classes 4, 5 and 7
* Available for out of hours work if required
