Job Description:

Harvey Nash's Pub Sec client is looking for an Employee Relations Advisor. You will be deputising where required, to deliver a high quality, professional, business-focused Employee Relations service across the Council, with specific responsibility for provision of quality and consistent advice through the HR Advice Line. You will also contribute to the review and development of employee relations policies, procedures and guidance materials

Main Duties:

Planning:

Support the Team Leaders (Service Centre) to develop the team's services and service plans by working in partnership with colleagues (within and out with the service) and by taking personal responsibility where appropriate for planning how these are delivered effectively and efficiently to service users. In particular:

  • Contributing to the design and review of the Employee Relations Advice service
  • Maintaining accurate records in order to create high quality analytics and reports
  • Contribute to change programmes to meet current and future needs of our customers
  • Respecting the confidentiality of customers colleagues and other departments at all times

Service delivery:

Support the Employee Relations Officer to deliver high quality services and best value to service users by ensuring that all agreed plans are implemented efficiently and effectively. In particular:

Take a lead role in delivering a professional HR service to allocated customer groups. This is achieved by:

  • Providing advice and support to relevant line managers and employees through the HR Advice-line, particularly on employee relations issues such as discipline, grievance, performance management, and reward, TUPE, organisational change, Job Evaluation, absence management and conditions of service
  • To manage a caseload of basic employee relations cases for client departments covering all aspects of employee relations
  • Attending interviews and hearings as required to advise on HR policies and procedures.
  • To ensure processes and procedures are followed in relation to documenting and recording advice team activities
  • To undertake fact finding investigations for basic disciplinary cases
  • Assisting with the provision of coaching and/or mentoring sessions to managers covering Employee Relations policies and procedures
  • Assist with the review and development of procedures, guidance and training materials for Employee Relations policies and procedures and leading on elements.
  • To assist with the review and development of Employee Relations policies and procedures by conducting research into best practice and collating bench-marking data from other organisations
  • To attend meetings and contribute to relevant internal and external working groups as appropriate

Performance Management / Reporting:

Support the Team Leader (service Centre) to develop, implement and maintain appropriate performance management reporting systems as a means of managing and monitoring the team's performance, to ensure standards are maintained, improvements developed and issues addressed in a timely manner. Specifically:

  • To maintain and update systems with appropriate and accurate information that will enable accurate reporting of HR Advice and outcomes of employee relations cases.
  • To maintain administrative information and filing systems.
  • To gather and collate customer satisfaction with the HR advice service to support continuous improvement and professional development
  • To produce clear and concise reports and analytics with regards to Employee Relations

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Providing information and guidance to employees/customers through written and spoken communication
  • Good knowledge of employment law
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
