The Quality Engineer is responsible for maintaining quality standards throughout the production process, working closely with both suppliers and customers to resolve technical and quality issues. This role is essential in ensuring that all products meet industry standards and exceed customer expectations, contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
In this role, you will conduct audits, lead problem-solving initiatives, and oversee product approvals, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. The position requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- ISO Standards & Audits: Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with ISO standards, prepare for external audits, maintain records, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Product Approval and Reporting: Manage the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) to ensure product quality meets customer and regulatory requirements. Document and report results to comply with industry standards and client requirements.
- Problem Solving: Utilise 8D problem-solving techniques to address quality-related issues, leading cross-functional teams in identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and verifying effectiveness.
- Engineering Drawings: Review and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T, to ensure components meet required specifications and tolerances. Collaborate with the engineering team to resolve any design-related quality concerns.
- New Product Introduction (NPI): Support the NPI process by establishing quality requirements for new products, collaborating with production and engineering teams to ensure smooth integration of new products into manufacturing.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Monitor, analyse, and report on quality KPIs to track progress and drive continuous improvement. Participate in KPI reviews and propose corrective actions as needed.
- Continuous Improvement (5S): Implement and maintain 5S practices to promote a safe and efficient working environment. Support a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and executing initiatives to enhance product quality and process efficiency.
- Supplier and Customer Collaboration: Act as a primary contact for suppliers and customers regarding technical and quality-related concerns. Coordinate with suppliers on quality standards and assist in resolving any issues that arise.
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum Previous Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in a Quality Engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills:
- Strong knowledge of ISO standards and quality management systems.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, including GD&T.
- Experience with PPAP, FAIR, and NPI processes.
- Familiarity with 8D problem-solving, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
- Demonstrated understanding of KPIs, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
Desirable Skills:
- Certification in Quality Engineering (CQE), Six Sigma, or similar.
- Proficiency with quality management software.
- Experience with project management and process improvement tools.
