Job Title: Data Centre Operations Shift TeamHourly rate: £12.00Proposed start date: As soon as possible after successful security clearanceDuration: 12 months with potential to extendWorking hours: Working Monday - Friday, shift work on a rotational basis. Shifts are either night shifts (23:00 - 07:00), day shifts (07:00 - 15:30) or evening shifts (15:00 - 23:30). Weekend overtime is available on a voluntary basis.

Background:

Since the implementation of the Joint Personnel Administration program, DBS have been responsible for all scheduling to meet the JPA Armed Forces HR and Payroll requirements as well as the contractual obligations to support many complementary applications and standalone systems providing services to our customer. The post is within the secure operations area.

The Shift Team undertakes monitoring and management of scheduled tasks for JPA and related systems. Monitoring of all infrastructure equipment and certain other server-based system work to meet contractual deadlines. Shift staff also manage backups for all DBS systems across various sites and provide a bulk printing service.

Role Description and Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that scheduled tasks run correctly & meet contractual scheduling requirements
  • To ensure that the JPA computer systems (incl. hardware, software & apps) are running correctly and within the contracted requirements.
  • Identify & analyse system faults taking corrective action or escalating where appropriate.
  • Monitor system backups and maintenance jobs taking corrective action or escalating where appropriate.
  • Manage and maintain printers and production of bulk printed output.
  • Participate In the daily movement of DR items and backup tapes & carry out the associated audit & inventory checks.
  • Ensure all daily reports are completed accurately and distributed correctly.
  • This role requires the incumbent to participate in the formal shift pattern that is in place.

Key Attributes:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently engage with others
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • A sound understanding of IT systems is essential.
  • Full driving licence is preferred as driving between DBS sites is an essential requirement.
  • Good time keeping is essential in meeting the shift pattern.

Desirable Skills:

  • Ability to work closely with other members of a small Team.
  • Some knowledge of JPA would be advantageous.
