Assistant Accountant

At Apointe, we are collaborating with a client in the FMCG sector to recruit an Assistant Accountant. Our team has extensive experience working with the Head of Finance, who brings valuable expertise to the table. The position will primarily involve responsibilities related to Accounts Payable and Payroll.

This role will manage the accounts payable for the site, manage all supplier queries and prepare payments. In addition to payables, this role will lead the payroll preparation and reporting, as well as being the contact point for internal queries. The payroll calculations and processing is managed by a third party.

This role is very hands-on and requires someone who is willing to work with all departments and external suppliers. It is an exciting time to join the site and finance team, with plenty of opportunities to develop and gain exposure to all departments.

There is an expectation that the accounts assistant will study to become a qualified accountant (AAT/ CIMA/ ACCA), for which support will be provided. With exam success and development within the role there will be plenty of opportunities to progress within the finance team.

Hybrid: 4 days a week in the office (flexibility for 3 days following successful probation)

Salary: Up to £35,000 depending on experience

The Role

  • Reconcile all supplier accounts;
  • Manage supplier payment queries;
  • Support the management of supplier rebates;
  • Support procurement on ad hoc supplier projects;
  • Manage the payment runs, including creating the payment list; review of payments; approval process;
  • Manage urgent/ one-off supplier payments;
  • Manage supplier invoices receipt and system loading;
  • Scan and manage the storage of supplier invoices;
  • Manage the expenses and company credit card process (review, queries, system management; documenting);
  • Collate and review the payroll data for the site and submit to third party payroll company;
  • Verify the completed payroll data prior to payment;
  • Act as contact/ liaison for staff payroll queries;
  • Support payroll reporting and legal requirements;
  • Prepare the relevant balance sheet reviews;
  • Support the wider finance team on an ad-hoc basis;
  • Support HR where required;
  • Supporting month end finance activities including any accruals/ prepayments;
  • Involvement in ad-hoc finance projects.

Role Requirements

Essential:

  • Strong communication skills (both with internal team members & suppliers);
  • Agree to study to become a qualified accountant (support provided);
  • A good level of Microsoft Excel skills (and generally I.T. system proficient);
  • Experience working within a finance team and/or basic knowledge of accounts/ payables/ receivables;
  • A willingness to learn and develop within the finance team and across the company;
  • The ability to work well as a team and help develop the finance team.

Desirable:

  • Experience in accounts payable/ accounts receivable/ payroll processing;
  • Knowledge of manufacturing/ supply chain;
  • Experience with an ERP software system;
  • Already started an accountancy study programme.
