SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Grantham
Salary: £83.33 - £90.00 Per Day, depending on experience
Start date: Start after October half-term
Contract: Part-Time

GSL Education ‘Lincolnshire Branch’ are currently collaborating with an outstanding SEN-based school in Grantham that caters to students with special educational needs and is looking to hire a committed and enthusiastic Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant. This role offers a unique opportunity to support the holistic development of students facing social, emotional and mental health challenges.
The Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with social, emotional and mental health needs. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, tailored to the unique needs of each student.
Responsibilities of SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide individualised support to students with SEMH needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their educational goals.
- Implement effective behaviour management strategies to foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Offer emotional and social support to students, helping them develop resilience, confidence and social skills.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and other professionals to develop and implement comprehensive support plans.
- Assist in assessing and recording students' progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and contributing to personalised education plans.
The successful candidate will:
- Have a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or a related field. A background in psychology, counselling, or social work is advantageous.
- May have prior experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
- Flexibility to adapt to the varying needs of students and support different teaching strategies.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
