Role: Learning Support Assistant (LSA/TA)

GSL are working closely with a provision a secondary provision in Wandsworth, for children who have experienced trauma or have social and emotional needs. 

They are looking for pro-active and encouraging support staff with an interest in applicants experienced supporting mental health or social difficulties.

The Provision:

The provision provides a trauma-informed approach to education for children across primary and secondary. The provision has two sites for pupils moving up to KS3. Pupils within the provision have a range of social difficulties such as trauma and social emotional mental health.

The Job:

This job is also ideal for Mental Health Workers, Youth Workers, Support Workers, Foster carers and those with Looked After Children (LAC) or CAMHS experience due to the complexity of pupil needs.

The provision has a great approach to behaviour management with a behaviour lead in-house and through adopting a no rewards and no consequences policy which is effective in helping pupils regulate their emotions and engage in education. 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing behaviours in class associated with social and emotional mental health needs (SEMH) Pupils aged11-16 years old.
  • Supporting pupils with learning, therapy and social activities
  • Being flexible and open to adapting approach to support individual pupil needs where required 
  • Assisting with recording pupil progress alongside attending annual reviews, multi-agency meetings and parents evenings where required
  • 8:30am - 4:00pm Full-time Monday to Fridays

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting children with social and emotional difficulties (SEMH) or with EHCPs
  • Experience working in secondary schools or alternative education is highly desirable but not essential
