Thurrock Council is on a major change journey and is looking for people to help in the delivery of this. Following the Council being put into intervention in 2022 a vast amount of work has already been successfully undertaken to ensure the Council is back on track and moving towards financial stability, but there is more to do.
The Council are currently recruiting a number of roles across the finance team to help drive the Councils new Corporate Plan 'A Fresh Start for Thurrock’, which set out how they will operate over the next five years as it recovers and rebuilds trust with residents and communities. The finance team will play a hugely important role in securing the Councils future.
The 2 Accountants are based within the Strategic and Corporate Finance team supporting either close down or treasury. The successful candidates will be given the opportunity to develop their skills and potential progress in to more senior roles.
The Accountant for close down will work closely with the Finance Manager and Chief Accountant providing support with the closure of accounts and audit, as well as looking at process improvements.
The Accountant for treasury reports into the Finance Manager Treasury role and will take responsibility for the daily dealing as well as supporting the Finance Manager in reporting the Cash Flow and updating and policies and processes across the team.
To be suitable for either role you should be at least part qualified with previous exposure or experience to any of the following; technical accounting, working on the production of statutory accounts or supporting treasury. Previous experience within the public sector is desirable but not essential.
