Depot Manager – InPost & Newstrade, Grays Depot

Menzies Distribution is a leading provider of time-critical logistics services across sectors including Newstrade, Retail, and eCommerce. We are currently seeking an experienced Depot Manager to oversee the operations of both the InPost and Newstrade services at our Grays Depot. This is a key role in ensuring the efficient running of daily operations, achieving high standards of customer service, and leading a high-performing team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
As Depot Manager, you will be responsible for the operational efficiency of the depot, ensuring seamless service delivery for both InPost and Newstrade customers, managing operational costs, maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements, and driving continuous improvements to meet business goals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operational Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of both the InPost and Newstrade services at the Grays Depot, ensuring efficient and timely service delivery.
- Coordinate the distribution of parcels for InPost and newspapers/magazines for Newstrade, ensuring smooth handling, storage, and delivery processes.
- Manage inventory and stock levels for both services to meet customer demand without compromising on operational efficiency.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, motivate, and develop a diverse depot team across both services, ensuring a high level of performance, accountability, and collaboration.
- Set clear performance objectives, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Promote a positive, safety-focused culture within the depot, emphasizing team collaboration, safety awareness, and operational excellence.
- Customer Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both InPost and Newstrade customers, ensuring their expectations are consistently met or exceeded.
- Address customer concerns, resolve issues promptly, and work with the team to continuously improve service quality.
- Identify opportunities for service enhancements and potential growth, aiming to optimize both services and develop synergies between the two.
- Financial & Budget Management:
- Manage the depot's operational budget, ensuring adherence to financial targets for both services.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics, driving cost-effective solutions to improve profitability.
- Control labor and operational expenses to ensure the depot operates within budgetary constraints.
- Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure the depot operates in full compliance with health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
- Regularly review and implement safety protocols, conduct training, and perform audits to identify any areas for improvement.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all relevant regulatory and legal requirements are met for both InPost and Newstrade, including driver hours, tachograph regulations, and maintenance schedules.
- Oversee compliance with Company policies and industry standards, regularly auditing operations to ensure regulatory compliance is maintained.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement improvements in operational processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and service quality across both InPost and Newstrade services.
- Promote the use of technology and data analytics to drive innovation and improve depot operations.
- Reporting & Analysis:
- Provide regular reports on operational performance, financial metrics, and KPIs to senior management.
- Assess performance data and make informed decisions to optimize operational output and customer service.
About You:
Experience & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a leadership role in logistics, distribution, or supply chain management, preferably within a depot or similar operational environment.
- Strong experience in managing multiple services or business units, with a focus on both operational efficiency and customer service.
- Excellent financial acumen, with experience in managing budgets, controlling costs, and driving profitability.
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification is preferred, but not essential.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance within logistics and distribution, including health & safety, driver regulations, and industry standards
