Active Recruitment are working with a fantastic mainstream primary school in Grays, Thurrock who arecurrently seeking a strongSENTeaching Assistantwith experience in supporting primary aged pupils with ASD and challenging behaviour. The school is well equipped to support pupils with a broad and inclusive curriculum as well as facilities, it is known for its positive culture and learning environment, where students are supported to be happy, safe and stimulated throughout their learning day.

Duties and Responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Support children with Special Educational Needs (Autism, Emotional Behaviour Difficulties) in small groups and one to one.
  • Developing social/emotional skills (depending on individual need)
  • Helping to plan and organise learning activities for students being supported
  • Provide support for students' emotional and social development by encouraging and modelling positive behaviour

  • Assist in the production of appropriate teaching materials
  • Contribute to the target setting and review process and support pupil in meeting specific targets of IEP.

The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant will have:

  • The ability to assess the individual learning needs of pupils
  • The ability to positively manage challenging behaviour
  • A positive attitude, the ability to empathise and a willingness to develop and learn on the job
  • A calm, patient and caring approach to working with children
  • Experience working with pupils with ASD.
