Job Overview:
The Recycling Operative is responsible for processing and managing of recyclable materials in a waste management facility or recycling plant. The role involves ensuring that recyclable materials are properly separated, prepared for recycling, and disposed of in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner. The Recycling Operative plays a key role in promoting sustainability and reducing waste.
Key Responsibilities:
Operation of Machinery: Operate recycling machinery such as shredders, compactors, and conveyors to process materials efficiently.
Quality Control: Inspect materials to ensure they meet quality standards and are free from contamination.
Waste Management: Ensure that non-recyclable materials are correctly segregated and disposed of in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
Cleaning and Maintenance: Keep the recycling area clean, organized, and free from hazards. Perform basic maintenance on recycling equipment as required.
Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of the amount and types of materials collected, processed, and disposed of, as required by regulations.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members and supervisors to meet recycling goals and targets.
Skills and Qualifications:
Basic Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Previous experience in a similar role, particularly in a waste management or recycling environment, is preferred.
Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
Attention to Detail: Ability to identify and sort recyclable materials accurately and efficiently.
Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety standards and practices in a recycling environment.
Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Communication Skills: Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
Technical Skills (optional): Experience with machinery operation or equipment used in the recycling process is a plus.
Driver:Â own transport ideal due to location
Working Conditions:
Environment: Work is often performed in a busy recycling yard, which may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Hours: 08.00-16.00 Monday - Friday
Physical Demands: The role may involve repetitive tasks and physical labour, including lifting heavy materials
