Job Purpose

The Specialist HR Adviser - Occupational Health role is part of the HR Consultants family, the title used reflects that the term 'Consultant’ has a different meaning in the medical world. The role provides high-level technical expertise and advice within their professional area. They coach managers to deal successfully with people issues and use highly developed enquiry skills to evaluate information and identify potential solutions to complex issues. Creating medium to long term value within their designated portfolio areas, consultants will lead on clearly defined projects and provide mentoring to influence decisions.

Context

The HSW Team provides professional leadership, advice and support in the disciplines of occupational health, safety and wellbeing. The team have a strong traded brand that complements and supports the delivery of services. The team will focus on:

  • HSW policy and strategy development and delivery
  • Specialist HSW training development and delivery
  • Proactive assessment, monitoring and performance reporting against the H&S compliance framework
  • Level 1 - 3 HSW advice and guidance including occupational health advice, incident investigation, wellbeing support, mediation, critical incident support
  • Traded Services strategy and delivery.
  • HSW Contract management (CLEAPPS, Specsavers, First Aid, OH, MIRS, Psychological assessment, NSL, Lone Worker Devices)

This role will manage and deliver the occupational health components of the service. This includes:

  • Active management and development of the3 core Occupational Health and Well-being contracts to ensure they deliver to contract, provide value for money and impact is maximised.
  • Working with the HR Consultant -Wellbeing to ensure the contracts reflect the wellbeing needs of the organisation
  • Providing occupational health advice to HR colleagues, managers, employees and external customers

Accountabilities

Provide specialist professional advice and guidance to support people management issues, cultural change and strategic priorities.

Develop proposals to support development priorities. Identify resources to deliver continuous improvement through the most effective and cost-effective solutions.

Provide subject matter expertise on improvement initiatives and projects, ensuring people issues are fully considered. Work with stakeholders to ensure effective improvement and change.

Analyse and interpret data to identify and communicate trends. Recommend actions which support the strategic priorities.

Build partnerships and work collaboratively with internal/external networks to improve service delivery effectiveness. Ensure that changes are informed by the views of stakeholders.

Challenge existing ways of working seeking to delivery process improvement. Share knowledge and promote the development of skills within the HR team.

Provide subject matter expertise on improvement initiatives and projects, ensuring people issues are fully considered.

Keep up to date with technical knowledge and best practice in the professional area.
