Based in Great Yarmouth, Abbey Chemicals is a chemical distributor. The majority of the chemicals that we distribute are imported from all over the world including Turkey, Italy, Austria, China and India.  

Chemical distribution is the process of storing, transporting, and delivering chemicals from manufacturers to end users in various industries. Chemical distribution is a diverse industry that covers many sectors, including pharmaceuticals, construction, agriculture, cosmetics, food, feed, and automotive.

We are a growing chemical distribution company based in Great Yarmouth.  We have three warehouses in Great Yarmouth alongside the main yard, storage and warehouse on Southtown Road.  We are a small team working hard to adapt to the expansion of the business. As such we are keen to welcome hard-working, innovative, and pro-active individuals into the business to have a hands-on role in the evolution of the business.

We are currently seeking a Transport and Operations Manager with a Transport Manager CPC qualification.  Abbey Chemicals operates 4 tractor units and 6 trailers, 2 rigid vehicles and 3 vans.

Being a relatively small team, the job can be varied and having additional experience and knowledge to bring to the team would be highly advantageous. The right individual could get involved in other areas such as sales, purchasing, ISO, QSHE, BRC and warehousing.

The role would include liaising between sales, purchasing and HSEQ personnel and providing administrative support where needed. 

Work hours would be Monday to Friday, (phone number removed)hrs. There will be some flexibility where needed. 

Transport Manager Responsibilities

Make sure that daily vehicle checks are completed by drivers and damage or defects are reported.

Understanding all relevant legislation including Drivers Hours/Working Time Directive.

Complete regular tacho reviews

Working time directive checks  

Keep vehicle maintenance schedule up to date

Provide induction training, training evaluations and refresher training as required

Assist with minor vehicle maintenance, such as bulb replacements and torque wheel nuts

Operations Manager Responsibilities

Forklift License advantageous.

Check stock holding at 3 sites and assist with moving of product between sites.

Provide management and leadership of the warehouse and service areas

Ensure we are always operating under safe conditions and are fully site compliant

Manage movement of all stock in / out

Manage inventory levels – minimum / maximum stock levels, stock rotation, etc
