Job Summary:
The Groundworks Surveyor/Estimator is responsible for estimating the costs and surveying the land for groundwork and civil engineering projects. This role involves assessing site conditions, preparing cost breakdowns, and ensuring the accurate measurement of work required. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:

Surveying & Site Assessment:
- Conduct detailed surveys of sites, including measurements, topography, and soil conditions.
- Interpret site plans, drawings, and specifications to assess the scope of work.

Cost Estimation:
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for groundwork projects.
- Assess labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs to provide an accurate project budget.
- Work closely with suppliers to negotiate prices for materials and services.

Bid Preparation & Tendering:
- Prepare and submit tenders and bids for groundwork contracts.
- Review project specifications and drawings to create comprehensive and competitive bid proposals.

Project Planning & Scheduling:
- Assist in the planning and scheduling of groundwork activities, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Ensure that the groundwork processes align with the project’s overall timeline and budget.

Compliance & Regulations:
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and local laws.
- Assist with the preparation of risk assessments and health and safety plans for projects.

Collaboration:
- Work alongside project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Provide technical support and advice throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist in resolving any disputes or issues that arise during the project.

Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of site visits, measurements, and correspondence.
- Update project documentation as required throughout the project lifecycle.
Skills and Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.Certification or training in construction or groundworks estimation is preferred.

Experience:
- Previous experience in groundwork surveying or estimating, preferably in construction or civil engineering.
Work Environment:
- This role involves a combination of office-based work and field-based surveying. Site visits are common, and some outdoor work may be required in various weather conditions.
Salary:
- The salary range £50,000 to £60,000 per year.
