A prominent financial services organisation in the Guildford area is seeking a Financial Accountant with expertise in risk and controls to join their Finance Operations department.This is a newly created position within a newly formed team, set up specifically to manage and mitigate operational risk by identifying vulnerabilities within existing processes, and developing robust control frameworks to ensure rigid compliance with financial reporting standards and audit requirements.The role involves a significant amount of liaison with various internal divisions, managing business touchpoints and acting as key point of contact between the internal and offshore audit teams and external auditors.

What will the Financial Accountant – Risk & Controls role involve?

  • Support the implementation of the Finance Operations control transformation agenda, working collaboratively across divisions and with key stakeholders.
  • Contribute towards the design and implementation of the department's annual controls testing plan, along with providing meaningful feedback to enhance the controls position, including automation.
  • Maintain the integrity of the risk and control framework, ensuring controls are designed to best practice standards, operate effectively, and facilitate/drive resolution of deficiencies.
  • Provide effective governance and support strategic initiatives, required to either remediate or proactively enhance control activities.
  • Ensure risk and control documentation is in a fit-for-purpose state, assisting on the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures, for all risk activity.
  • Validate and close control gaps and self-identified issues for teams within Finance Operations.
  • Support Finance Operations teams with interim and annual planning, testing and resolution of audit queries (internal & external).

Suitable Candidate for the Financial Accountant – Risk & Controls vacancy:

  • Deep understanding of financial controls and how they work, able to articulate this to a non-finance audience, and demonstrate/implement knowledge of best practice within this field.
  • Audit or risk background (ideally within an accountancy practice), with a clear understanding of risk related concepts and controls within a Finance Operations function, particularly in relation to regulatory reporting.
  • Capable of coordinating complex audits, verifying quality of submissions, suggesting improvements, and effectively managing a Big Four external audit body.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong track record of engaging with and influencing a diverse range of stakeholders at all levels.
  • ACCA/CIMA/ACA Qualified or Part Qualified.
