A forward-thinking building surveying team are looking for their next team member. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting others with building surveying work on projects and tasks with moderate supervision to ensure the tasks are delivered as briefed. This includes communicating with the client, other consultants and colleagues in the delivery of projects whilst maintaining a positive client relationship. As part of this role you will have a commitment to self-development and the improvement of your technical skills and knowledge and be actively working towards achieving RICS Assoc or MRICS status.


Responsibilities of the role:

  • Execute and coordinate work as directed by senior staff
  • Undertake work with minimum supervision
  • Able to prepare sketch plans, working drawings, specifications
  • Undertake inspections on a range of building defects and prepare written reports detailing your findings, causes of the defect and recommendations for repair.
  • Assist with planning site investigation works
  • Assist with preparing feasibility studies and providing design advice
  • Assist with the development and use of computer-based systems to improve efficiency
  • Undertake site inspection, attend site meetings and produce meeting minutes
  • Produce designs, assessments and reports in accordance with quality procedures
  • Liaise effectively with clients, other design team members and third parties
  • Work within the given programme and cost constraints

Requirements of the role:

  • University degree in building surveying or equivalent
  • Good understanding of surveying and construction principles and methods
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Proactive approach to work
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Commitment to continual improvement at a personal and company level
  • A good understanding of different construction methods and building materials, contract procedures, landlord and tenant matters and the Party Wall Act 1996 etc.
  • Working knowledge of CAD design software
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel
  • Working towards or recently achieved MRICS status
  • Ability to work within the ISO 19650 environment and associated processes
  • Knowledge of different methods of construction and building materials
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations, Building Regulations, Party Wall Act and planning law
  • Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge, and be able to identify a range of building materials and defects commonly affecting buildings of both traditional and non-traditional construction i.e. defects in concrete, brickwork, timber, etc
  • Ability to write detailed and comprehensive reports on building related defects, identifying cause and recommendations for repair.
