We are looking for a passionate and committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to to support children with moderate learning difficulties and additional mental health needs. This school is based in Hailsham for children aged 4-16 and has speciailised in SEMH to provide exceptional education and support for traumatised children and young people.

You will be working in partnership with the school's teaching staff and therapists to deliver specific interventions that aim to boost students' learning, development and well-being. You will make a real difference to the lives of the children, gaining vital experience which will enable you to kick-start your future career.

This role will give you essential experience within a challenging yet rewarding setting - career progression routes include SEN Teacher, Occupational Therapist and various Psychology routes.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Assist the class teacher in providing the learning experience of students.
  • Behaviour and pastoral support.
  • Take an active role in forward planning with therapists.
  • Ability to build robust and effective relationships with students.
  • Practical approach to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Willing to work 1:1 and in small groups with students.
  • Ensure safeguarding of students, in line with procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete appropriate CPD.

Requirements of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience and desire to work with children with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
