Hayley Group Limited has a vacancy for a Transportation Manager to work within our well-established and experienced Logistics Team based at our Halesowen branch. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary.

About the role:

The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the transportation operations of the company. They plan, direct, and coordinate transportation policies and programs, and oversee the work of transportation staff, such as truck drivers and logistics coordinators. The Transportation Manager will develop and implement transportation strategies to ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation operations. They also ensure compliance with transportation laws and regulations. This is a senior position that requires strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills. The successful Transportation Manager should have experience in transportation management, logistics, and supply chain management. They should also have a deep understanding of transportation technologies and industry trends.

In this position, you will be expected to manage and coordinate the transportation of goods and materials to ensure timely delivery to customers. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing transportation policies and procedures, as well as managing transportation budgets and expenses.

Working hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday (after hours and weekend work may be required on an ad hoc basis).

Key responsibilities as our Transportation Managerwill include:

  • Develop and oversee transportation policies, procedures, and programs to ensure safe and efficient transportation operations.
  • Manage and coordinate the transportation department's daily activities, including scheduling, routing, and dispatching of vehicles and drivers.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable DVLA and UK regulations related to transportation, including driver qualification, vehicle maintenance, and hours of service.
  • Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Manage relationships with transportation vendors and negotiate contracts and rates.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure transportation needs are met, including coordinating with warehouse and distribution teams to ensure timely delivery of goods.
  • Develop and maintain transportation performance metrics and reports and use data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that all transportation-related documentation, trip sheets and delivery receipts, are accurate and complete.
  • Manage and develop transportation staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices related to transportation management.
  • Ensure all fleet is Taxed and has a certificate of MOT.
  • Tracking of all transport related costs to determine transport KPI’s.

Skills & Attributes we're looking for in our Transportation Manager:

  • Proven experience as a Transportation Manager or similar role.
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations for transportation.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple shipments and routes.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in transportation management software.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented and able to maintain accurate records.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
  • Valid driver's licence and clean driving record.
  • Hold a CPC.
  • Holds at least a Class 2 licence.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
