We are partnering with a leading furniture fit-out firm based in Halifax to recruit an Estimating Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to take the lead of a small but highly effective team of estimators, playing a key role in the business's continued growth by successfully tendering for high-end projects across the UK.
Job PurposeThe Estimating Manager will be responsible for overseeing the estimating function within the bid department, ensuring that the team delivers accurate and competitive tenders, while managing client relationships to ensure repeat business. You will be an integral member of the bid team, contributing to the overall business development strategy, and ensuring that tenders are completed to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities- Team Management: Lead a team of Estimators, Senior Estimators, and Graduate Estimators, ensuring that company policies and procedures are adhered to, and the team is meeting deadlines and achieving targets.
- Tender Process: Oversee the full tender process, from reviewing and evaluating tender enquiries to ensuring all necessary documentation is gathered, quotes are prepared, and submissions are completed accurately and on time.
- Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, attending pre- and post-tender meetings, and helping to secure future projects.
- Supply Chain Management: Work closely with suppliers and subcontractors to negotiate pricing, discounts, and payment terms. Issue enquiry packs and assess the quotes from supply chain partners.
- Team Development: Develop and mentor your team, including career progression planning, training, and recruitment.
- Cross-departmental Collaboration: Work closely with the Business Development, Design, and Contracts departments to ensure that secured projects are delivered successfully and on time.
- Cost Analysis & Risk Management: Identify and manage opportunities and risks, ensuring competitive and accurate pricing that reflects the company's strategic goals.
- Documentation & Compliance: Ensure that all bid documentation, including proposals, mood boards, and visuals, are prepared and compliant with company standards.
- Project Handover: Successfully hand over projects to the Design and Contracts teams after securing the project, providing any necessary support throughout the project delivery phase.
- Health & Safety: Ensure that all health and safety regulations are followed in all aspects of the estimating and tendering process.
- Qualifications:
- A 2:1 Degree in a relevant field such as Design, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying; or
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in an estimating role within a similar industry.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in managing a team of estimators.
- Technical Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in managing and delivering tenders for projects up to £5m.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Commercially astute with a track record of successfully negotiating with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar software is desirable but not essential.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Personal Skills & Attributes:
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a confident telephone manner.
- Ability to think strategically, identifying opportunities and risks for the business.
- Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
- A full UK driving license is desirable but not essential.
- Ideally, previous experience in managing teams within the fit-out or construction sector, with a strong understanding of the furniture industry.
