The prime role of the legal secretary is to provide across team support to the Fee Earners (and in their absence, paralegals, or legal assistants) within the Residential Property department to enable them to operate at optimum efficiency. This will include but will not be limited to the main responsibilities given below. The legal secretary is expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative. The role can be based in our Halstead, Braintree, Sudbury, Witham or Coggeshall office depending on the candiate.

The Day to Day:

  • Type documents, letters, attendance notes, file notes & bills, via Bighand/Speechwrite digital dictation on a pool system basis.
  • Administer electronic filing which will include daily filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files
  • To prepare mail and enclosures for despatch.
  • To provide support to other secretaries/legal assistants/paralegals/fee earners as required.
  • To provide guidance to junior and temporary secretaries when required to do so.
  • To attend clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care.
  • To collaborate with and support other secreataries across the team using technology such a paperlite systems and Teams for communication and information sharing
  • To undertake any specific training when required to do so and overall to have a responsibility towards self-development.
  • To ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and clients’ documentation and information.
  • To update and keep updated electronic checklists within the case management system.

What experience do I need?

  • Trained in secretarial practice.
  • Fast and accurate word-processing and audio-typing skills.
  • Previous experience as a legal secretary or experience of working in an alternative professional office.
