The Opportunity
We are looking for an Electrode Coatings Test Technician to join our team in a laboratory environment, supporting the development of innovative electrode coatings for industrial electrolysis applications.

Your duties and responsibilities will be 

  • Operating minicell test equipment, following experimental plans and procedures.
  • Assembling test cells and building them into test rigs.
  • Conducting experiments, measuring key parameters, and compiling data.
  • Processing and analysing results using Microsoft Excel to produce graphs, trends, and key performance metrics.
  • Compiling test reports and communicating findings to senior scientists.
  • Preparing electrolyte solutions, carrying out gas purity analysis, and conducting other physical characterisations.
  • Maintaining and improving laboratory equipment, working with suppliers and engineers for repairs and component sourcing.
  • Presenting results in technical meetings to the wider Electrochemical Technology Team.

You will have the following qualifications and experience

  • HND in a scientific field with at proven laboratory experience or a degree with postgraduate laboratory experience.
  • Experience working in a safety-focused chemistry laboratory, particularly with hazardous substances like chlorine and caustic soda.
  • High safety awareness and understanding of COSHH and safe experiment design.
  • Strong hands-on approach and familiarity with laboratory-scale equipment (preferably involving electrochemistry).
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel to manage and analyse large datasets efficiently.
  • Ability to develop streamlined workflows and present findings effectively to the team.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with gas chromatography and titration techniques.
  • Experience with Swagelok PFA and stainless-steel fittings for equipment maintenance.

Work Environment & Safety

  • This role involves working in a chemical laboratory handling small quantities of chlorine, NaOH, KOH, hydrogen, and other chemicals.
  • A strong commitment to safety is essential. Risks include chemical exposure, chemical burns, trips, falls, and confined space work. Full site induction and strict safety protocols will be provided and must be adhered to at all times.

  • Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a chemical site. These can include, chemical burns, trips and falls, overexertion, cuts and scrapes, chemical exposure, inhalation of chemicals and confined spaces.
