Sonic Summary

info
  • New Lanark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Scotland, seeks passionate individuals to serve as voluntary trustees for its Trust, established in 1974.
  • Candidates do not need prior board experience, as training and support will be provided, making this an ideal opportunity for those eager to contribute to the community's future.
  • Trustees should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and be prepared to attend board meetings and offer their expertise in Finance, Heritage, or Hospitality/Hotels.
  • This role is voluntary, with travel expenses fully reimbursed, and applicants are encouraged to submit a tailored CV and covering letter by midnight on March 12.
  • While there is no salary for this position, the experience offers a chance to play a significant role in the governance of a historic site that attracts over 300,000 visitors annually.

New Lanark is a former 18th century cotton spinning mill village located on the banks of the Falls of Clyde and today we are recognised as one of Scotland's six UNESCO World Heritage Sites of 'outstanding universal value' and welcome more than 300,000 visitors annually to our site. The Trust is a Registered Scottish Charity, established in 1974, with the aim of restoring and regenerating the former cotton mill village of New Lanark into a living and working community, and has pioneered a radical approach to heritage management-based tourism and hospitality, housing and commercial property rental, and manufacture and retail.

You do not need to have served on a board or committee previously, and training and support will be offered where required, so this is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a passion for what we do to become part of the next chapter in our story. You will need to be a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills and someone who can be an ambassador for New Lanark. Trustees are expected to devote sufficient time and energy to the effective governance of the Trust, attending the board meetings and contributing expertise. This is a voluntary role, however any travel expenses incurred will be fully reimbursed.

We are keen to hear from interested and committed individuals who want to contribute to a fantastic organisation that celebrates the past whilst looking to the future. Ideally, we are looking for candidates with expertise in one of three areas - Finance, Heritage or Hospitality/Hotels.

If you are excited by the idea of being part of our next chapter, and you believe you have the skills and experience to help us deliver our ambitions, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Applications in the form of a tailored CV and a covering letter (no longer than two pages), highlighting your skills and experience pertinent to the role, should arrive no later than midnight Wednesday 12 March. For a confidential, informal discussion about the role, or to request a Candidate Information Pack, please contact LHH directly on +44 (0) or email
