Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Contract Manager with a strong background in carpentry and building works to join a dynamic team. You will work across 2-3 key Grade listed sites with overall responsibility for the engineering teams on site. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the management, coordination, and execution of multiple carpentry, painting, polishing projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Management: Lead and manage all aspects of construction projects, from inception to completion, with a particular focus on carpentry and building works. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Contract Administration: Review, negotiate, and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. Ensure all contractual obligations are met and manage any variations or disputes that arise.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate site managers, carpenters, and other on-site personnel. Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high performance and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all site activities comply with health and safety regulations, conduct regular site inspections and audits to maintain high safety standards.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Develop and manage project budgets, monitor expenditures, and implement cost-saving measures. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Client Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and a strong relationship throughout the project lifecycle. Address any client concerns or issues promptly and professionally.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the quality of work delivered on-site, ensuring all carpentry and building works meet the required standards and specifications. Conduct regular inspections and ensure any defects are rectified promptly.
  • Resource Management: Plan and allocate resources effectively, including labor, materials, and equipment, to ensure project efficiency. Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and present regular progress reports, including updates on project timelines, budgets, and risks. Maintain accurate records of all project-related documentation.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • CSCS Black Card: Essential qualification demonstrating expertise in managing construction sites and teams.
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme): Required qualification for managing health and safety on-site.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Contract Manager role, with a strong emphasis on carpentry and building works.
  • Project Management Skills: Proven track record in managing multiple construction projects simultaneously, with excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of carpentry and building practices, materials, and techniques.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong experience in budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • IT Proficiency: Competent in the use of project management software, MS Office, and other relevant IT tools.
