About the Business

We are a family-owned, fast-growing fresh produce business based in Essex, supplying high-quality products to major retailers and foodservice clients across the UK. As part of our expansion, we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Production Nursery Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our horticultural nursery, playing a key role in crop production and quality control.

Role Overview

The Production Nursery Manager will be responsible for leading all aspects of plant and crop production within the nursery, ensuring optimal growing conditions, production efficiency, and product quality. This is a hands-on leadership role working closely with both senior management and operational teams to ensure high standards are met across every stage of the growing process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage nursery production operations including planting, propagation, growing, harvesting, and packing.

  • Monitor crop health and growing conditions, ensuring the highest standards of quality and yield.

  • Lead and develop a team of nursery operatives and supervisors, ensuring efficient workflow and high performance.

  • Plan and manage seasonal production schedules to meet customer demand.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health & safety, environmental, and food safety standards.

  • Collaborate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely supply of inputs and delivery of produce.

  • Implement and maintain best practices in sustainable and efficient horticultural production.

  • Use data and reporting tools to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a production or nursery management role within fresh produce, horticulture, or agriculture.

  • Strong understanding of plant cultivation and nursery management techniques.

  • Experience managing teams in a fast-paced, seasonal production environment.

  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

  • Knowledge of health & safety, crop protection, and environmental practices in a commercial growing environment.

  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, outdoor setting across varying weather conditions.

  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
