Job Title: Neuro Social Worker

Location: Hospital Site, Hertfordshire/Essex Border
Rate: £40PH to £50PH (dependant on experience)
Hours: Full-time (Monday to Friday), potential part-time option available (3 days)

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Neuro Social Worker to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team at a hospital located on the Hertfordshire/Essex border. This role is integral to providing exceptional care for patients with neurological conditions and ensuring compliance with safeguarding legislation and statutory duties.

The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in adult social work, with specific experience or interest in neuro care being highly advantageous. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a specialist field, where you'll be making a significant impact on patient lives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safeguarding and MCA Assessments: Conduct comprehensive safeguarding assessments in line with relevant policies and ensure compliance with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA). You will be required to carry out Best Interest Assessments and work closely with medical teams to support decision-making for vulnerable patients.

  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS): As part of your role, you will complete DoLS applications and assessments, ensuring that the patient’s rights are protected and that restrictions are minimized and legally justified.

  • Patient-Centered Social Work: Deliver high-quality social work interventions for adults with neurological disorders, focusing on individualized care and supporting their transition back into the community or longer-term care.

  • Liaison with Multidisciplinary Teams: Work closely with neurologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated and holistic care for patients with neurological impairments.

  • Community and Family Engagement: Liaise with families and carers, providing support, advocacy, and information about the patient’s condition, rehabilitation process, and ongoing care needs.

  • Report Writing and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports, case files, and legal documents as required for safeguarding and MCA assessments. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and ensure timely submission of reports to senior management or local authorities.

Skills and Experience Required:
  • Qualified Social Worker: Hold a valid social work degree and be registered with Social Work England (SWE).
  • Experienced Driver: A full UK driving license is essential due to the location of the service.
  • Neuro Experience (Desirable): Previous experience working with patients with neurological conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injuries, or degenerative neurological diseases.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding and MCA: Strong working knowledge of safeguarding principles, MCA guidelines, and DoLS procedures.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while managing your caseload independently.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex medical and legal information clearly to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Additional Benefits:
  • Free On-Site Meals: Complimentary meals are provided during working hours, ensuring you are fueled throughout the day.
  • Free On-Site Parking: Avoid the stress of finding parking with free, secure on-site parking available to all staff.
  • Work Flexibility: After an initial period on-site to establish rapport and trust, you may benefit from flexible home working arrangements (to be agreed upon with the management team).
