Role Overview

The Procurement Specialist will play a crucial role in the sourcing, procurement and arranging transport (via 3PL) of unlicensed medicines from approved suppliers worldwide, ensuring compliance with GDP guidelines and other regulatory requirements. This position is pivotal in maintaining a seamless supply chain and ensuring timely delivery of essential medicines to healthcare providers in the UK.

Key Responsibilites

1. Procurement and Supplier Management

  • Source unlicensed medicines from approved suppliers in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent product availability and competitive pricing
  • Negotiate terms and conditions to optimise procurement outcomes
  • Management of PO's

2. Logistics and Transportation

  • Arrange for the safe and compliant transport of medicines to the UK, coordinating with freight forwarders and courier services
  • Monitor and track shipments to ensure timely delivery and resolve any logistics issues promptly
  • Ensure that all transportation adheres to GDP standards, including temperature control and secure handling

3. Compliance and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate procurement records, including supplier certifications, purchase orders, and shipping documents
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant GDP guidelines, UK regulations, and company quality assurance policies
  • Support audits by providing necessary procurement and supply chain documentation

4. Collaboration and Communication

  • Liaise with internal teams, including quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and customer service, to ensure smooth operations.
  • Provide regular updates to the Procurement Manager on supplier performance and procurement activities

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance procurement processes and supply chain efficiency
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practises in unlicensed medicine procurement.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in a relevant field)
  • Previous experience in procurement or supply chain management within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge of GDP guidelines and regulatory requirements for unlicensed medicines
  • Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficiency in using procurement and logistics software
  • Excellent communication, team work and negotiation skills
