Service Accountant needed in North London Paying £27.60 per hr Ref 012655

Full time time on a temporary basis

Role Purpose: Build and maintain successful working relationships with Service Managers to support strategic and operational decision-making. Provide financial advice, support, and challenge to ensure effective service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a ‘critical friend’ to Service Managers, offering support, advice, and challenge.

  • Manage and train the service finance team to promote a customer service culture.

  • Produce financial advice for senior management and budget managers.

  • Coordinate revenue and capital budget preparation and monitoring.

  • Conduct in-depth budget reviews for complex, high-risk, or volatile budgets.

  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly capital and revenue monitoring reports.

  • Prepare and present budget monitoring reports to management teams.

  • Provide financial training to service and budget managers.

  • Complete financial and statistical returns for central Government and other bodies.

  • Plan and coordinate the closedown of accounts and provide information for the Statement of Accounts.

  • Advise on financial implications of new legislation, accounting practices, and policy changes.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting best practices and regulations.

  • Participate in improvement projects as part of the transformation agenda.

  • Take responsibility for continuous professional development and update financial skills and knowledge.

  • Conduct performance appraisals of senior finance officers.
