Medical Lead – Complex Care
  • Temporary Ongoing, Full-time

We are seeking a Specialist Medical Coordinator to take the medical lead within the area of Foundation Learning and ALS at a further education college. This role is pivotal in overseeing the medical requirements for learners with complex medical needs. The successful candidate will provide essential support, training, and compliance for all Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and Learning and Care Support Assistants (LCSAs), ensuring clinically effective provision/service that meets the health needs and physical wellbeing of learners.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Identify and assess students with disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or complex health and medical needs from EHCPs and enrolment declarations, producing individual support and care plans.
  • Implement EHCP relevant wellbeing/medical targets in collaboration with curriculum teaching staff.
  • Consult and liaise on profound and complex needs during the EHCP coordination process.
  • Attend interviews for learners applying for PMLD and Foundation Learning to assess the college’s capacity to meet their individual medical/support needs.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents, carers, and families regarding the profound and complex medical/support needs of learners.
  • Liaise with medical professionals and social care to ensure medical and therapy reports are current and changes to medical plans are communicated effectively.
  • Ensure safe storage and monitoring of prescribed medication, and that medication administration by trained staff is overseen.
  • Lead the formulation, supervision, and training related to Care Plans for learners with significant medical needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of medical needs and complex care requirements in a learning environment.
  • Ability to produce and implement effective care and support plans.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in managing and training staff on medical procedures and care.
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare policies, CQC standards, and SEND regulations.
