Class teachers hold the key pastoral responsibility for the members of their teaching group and should:
• Promote high expectations of work and behaviour
• Provide rewards and sanctions in class within the school framework for managing behaviour.
• Monitor levels of attendance and timekeeping and encourage promptness and regular attendance.
• Encourage pupils to have a positive view of themselves as learners.
• Ensure the best possible relationship with parents by making them welcome in school and finding ways to report progress and concerns.
• Promote positive behaviour throughout the school.
• Lead assemblies as required.
Responsibilities:
• Take the responsibility of safeguarding children seriously, and, following best practice, contribute to the safeguarding practices in school.
• Teach groups of children ensuring the curriculum is differentiated to meet all necessary levels of ability.
• Plan teaching and learning for pupils according to the school’s systems.
• Monitor and record progress, promoting children’s achievements whenever possible.
• Write reports and contribute to reviews and case conferences when required
• Work within a curriculum team, having responsibility for one or more subject areas as specified from time to time.
• Report on the subject to the Headteacher as required
• Participate in such meetings as are called within directed hours.
• Contribute to the school development process
