Interim Biodiversity Officer

Location: North West London
Contract Type: Inside IR35 (6 month initially)
Pay: 300 per day

I am working in partnership with a Local Authority based in north/west London to help them find an interim Biodiversity officer.

Role Overview:

As the Biodiversity & Natural Capital Officer, you will play a vital role in the conservation and enhancement of the councils biodiversity. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies for Biodiversity Net Gain, coordinating projects that promote natural capital, and ensuring compliance with local and national legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Biodiversity Action Plan.
  • Provide expert advice on biodiversity and ecology as it relates to planning policy and land use.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to manage key Council-owned sites effectively.
  • Coordinate delivery of biodiversity enhancement projects, including identifying funding sources and managing budgets.

What We're Looking For:

  • Knowledge & Experience:
    • A strong understanding of biodiversity issues, including experience with Biodiversity Net Gain and conservation strategies.
    • Proven experience in providing advice on planning applications and preparing management plans for biodiversity.
    • Familiarity with funding processes and community engagement in biodiversity projects.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to various stakeholders.
    • Strong project management abilities and proficiency in IT tools, including GIS.
    • A passion for engaging with the community and promoting biodiversity initiatives.
  • Qualifications:
    • A relevant degree or equivalent experience in environmental science, ecology, or a related field.
