Major Talent is partnered with a global player within the flavours and fragrance industry who have facilities throughout North America, Asia, and the UK. We are looking to speak with Chemists for an open Senior R&D Chemist position.

Experience with flavours and/or fragrances is ideal, however, we are open to industry, what is essential is that you have experience with organic chemistry.

As a Senior R&D Chemist, to plan and undertake research and laboratory work towards the introduction of new US/EU natural products and processes, with an emphasis on independently leading such projects. To prepare technology transfer packs to allow the establishment of new products/processes within Operations. To provide technical support to Operations and QC/QA functions as required, to maintain world-class housekeeping standards and to deputise for the Technical Manager as required

This is a day shift position, Monday to Friday Flexi working 8 am-4 pm or 9 am-5 pm

Responsibilities as a Senior R&D Chemist

  • To research new processes, materials & techniques through literature searches and laboratory work that can be used in the production of new US/EU natural aroma chemicals (or the improvement of existing natural products), and to lead these projects effectively.
  • To scale up reactions to maximum laboratory scale, develop Technology Transfer packs and in conjunction with the QC department develop analytical methods for in-process QC and final product testing.
  • To act as technical "champion" during development trials within the production plants, providing on-site support as required.
  • To prepare reports on R&D activities within the laboratory, including for internal intranet publication.
  • To maintain a working knowledge of the chemical processes used within Operations, and to provide assistance as required to Operations on these processes.
  • To follow good housekeeping practices and safe working procedures in the laboratory and office, ensure that all areas always remain clean and tidy and free from spillage. To maintain accurate and precise lab book data.
  • To follow the company's Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental policies and promote adherence to it; especially in the keeping of records, data and samples.
  • To work flexibly within the above guidelines, to adhere to company values and carry out any other similar duties as may be required Be responsible for training and development of operational staff concerning standard operating procedures, equipment instructions and process work instructions.
  • Ensure the safe and complete handover of the designated areas to the oncoming shift.
  • Whilst accepting the role of a working chemist to ensure that additional duties that may be reasonably assigned to the chemist are fully carried out and adequately handed over to the oncoming shift.

Skills required to be a Senior R&D Chemist

  • MSc Chemistry as a minimum with a higher degree being preferred
  • Laboratory-based R&D experience is required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in either industrial or academic areas
  • Familiarity with US/EU natural aroma chemicals in the flavour and fragrance market is an advantage, although significant knowledge in industries such as pharma, medicinal or fine chemicals will be considered
  • Good laboratory practice and a robust knowledge of modern organic chemistry is required
