Mechanical Design Engineer
Alexander Associates are working with a groundbreaking start up in the space industry with a very unique project.
Our client are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, testing, and prototyping of flight hardware for spacecraft. You will work on UK-developed technologies and contribute to system-level mechanical architecture. The role involves solving design problems, providing technical justification, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The position is open to various experience levels, with responsibilities tailored to the selected candidate.
Mechanical Design Engineer key responsibilities:
- Design mechanical systems for spacecraft, structures, MGSE, actuators, and mechanisms.
- Develop system architectures impacting mission hardware.
- Perform analyses to meet hardware performance, life, and environmental requirements.
- Use CAD for system modelling and documentation.
- Support assembly and testing, including shock, vibration, and space environment assessments.
- Identify and address technical roadblocks.
- Deliver high-quality engineering products on time.
- Support business development from an engineering perspective.
- Present effectively to the team and customers.
- Maintain positive working relationships within the department.
Required Qualifications for the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Proficient in CAD and analysis tools.
- Experience in developing mechanical systems for space applications.
- Ability to work autonomously and critically review designs.
- Collaborative, with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to Haves:
- Experience with LabView, MATLAB, SolidWorks, and Ansys.
- Familiarity with thermal and electrical teams for integrated product design.
- Experience with flight hardware and space operations.
- Knowledge of rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking (RPOD)
