We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support children with moderate learning difficulties and additional mental health needs. This schools needs an SEMH Teaching Assistant for an autism- specific school based in Hassocks for children aged 11-19. You will be working in partnership with the school's teaching staff and therapists to deliver specific interventions that aim to boost students' learning, development and well-being. You will make a real difference to the lives of the children, gaining vital experience which will enable you to kick-start your future career.

This role will give you essential experience within a challenging yet rewarding setting - career progression routes include SEN Teacher, Occupational Therapist and various Psychology routes.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Assist the class teacher in providing the learning experience of students
  • Behaviour and pastoral support
  • Take an active role in forward planning with therapists
  • Ability to build robust and effective relationships with students
  • Practical approach to meet the individual needs of students
  • Willing to work 1:1 and in small groups with students
  • Ensure safeguarding of students, in line with procedures
  • Attend staff meetings and complete appropriate CPD

Requirements of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
