Health and Safety Assistant

£30,000 - £35,000, predominantly Site based across east and west Sussex, Mon - Fri, 7:30am - 5:30pm, holiday, pension, Training, qualifications (IOSH, CDM), company vehicle, phone, laptop, ipad, fuel card

The Role:

Our client, a leading provider in the utilities sector, is expanding its Health and Safety team and seeking a proactive Health and Safety Assistant to join them in a brand-new role. This role supports the health and safety of various site operations and ensures compliance with industry standards. You'll play a vital role in ensuring a safe environment by assessing site risks, identifying potential hazards, and implementing effective control measures. Working closely with the Health and Safety Manager, you'll conduct pre-work site surveys, create risk assessments, and ensure that all activities meet regulatory and operational health and safety standards.

  • Conduct pre work site surveys to assess and mitigate safety risks
  • Create, review, and update risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
  • Identify hazards and propose appropriate safety controls and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with the Health and Safety Manager to promote safety practices across all operational areas
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and compliance reviews
  • Ensure compliance with IOSH and CDM standards
  • Support investigations following incidents and report on corrective actions
  • Keep up to date with health and safety regulations and best practices

Requirements:

The successful Health and Safety Assistant will either have qualifications in IOSH and CDM or be willing to undertake theses. Applications from qualified and unqualified candidates will be considered. Strong observational and analytical skills with the ability to identify and mitigate hazards are vital to this role. Excellent written communication skills are also important. This role could suit someone with a background as a Health and Safety Coordinator, Site Safety Assistant, or similar. Or someone who has worked in utilities / construction and is seeking to move into a utilities or construction-based health and safety role. Due to this role being predominantly site-based, you must have a full UK Driving licence.

Company Information

You will be joining a successful business based from their rural and humble head office situated north of Brighton, between Albourne and Henfield. About 10 people work from the office to support their network of 80+ engineers and fitters who work on the road in and around the Southeast. It is a no-frills environment filled with friendly, down-to-earth team.

Package:

  • £30,000 - £35,000 depending on experience
  • predominantly Site based across East and West Sussex with frequent attendance at their office in Albourne, West Sussex
  • Mon - Fri, 7:30am - 5:30pm
