We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support children with moderate learning difficulties and additional mental health needs. This schools needs an SEMH Teaching Assistant for an autism- specific school based in Hassocks for children aged 11-19. They are the proud to state that they are the winners of the ISA SEND school of the year for 2023.

You will be working in partnership with the school's teaching staff and therapists to deliver specific interventions that aim to boost students' learning, development and well-being. You will make a real difference to the lives of the children, gaining vital experience which will enable you to kick-start your future career.

This role will give you essential experience within a challenging yet rewarding setting - career progression routes include SEN Teacher, Occupational Therapist and various Psychology routes.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Assist the class teacher in providing the learning experience of students
  • Behaviour and pastoral support
  • Take an active role in forward planning with therapists
  • Ability to build robust and effective relationships with students
  • Practical approach to meet the individual needs of students
  • Willing to work 1:1 and in small groups with students
  • Ensure safeguarding of students, in line with procedures
  • Attend staff meetings and complete appropriate CPD
