We are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Legal Cashier for a progressive finance team at a leading law firm in central Hastings.

The ideal candidate will have previous Legal Cashier experience within a law firm.

The role involves covering all the cashiering functions which ensure the smooth running of the department in compliance with the SRA Account Rules and the firm’s own accounting and risk management procedures. Naturally, the duties will include reconciliation of Client and Business bank accounts, banking of Client and Business receipts & processing of Client and Business payments, the majority using electronic systems.

The main duties of the position are to include:

  • Deal with daily accounts post/DX and pass to relevant staff members
  • Download daily bank statements for all accounts held
  • Carry out daily reconciliations on Client bank accounts and Business accounts when required
  • Dealing with Out-of-Date Cheques
  • Check banking forecast and apply funds where necessary (daily)
  • Monitor banking system for all electronic payments throughout the day (CHAPS, BACs, FPC)
  • Identifying, allocating and posting incoming electronic & manual receipts
  • Check completions, set up and complete CHAPs transactions and other electronic payments as required by fee earners (providing Client funds will allow) following the firm’s policies and procedures.?

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Checking and arranging foreign payments as and when requested.
  • Processing Client and Business credits ready for banking (daily)
  • Completing bank deposit books ready for banking as required (daily)
  • Processing Client and Business cheque requests throughout the day until cut off point
  • Printing Client and Business cheques for signing
  • Calculating and applying Client interest where due upon request
  • Dealing with credit/debit card payments
  • Completing Client to Business transfers in respect of costs and disbursements (daily)
  • Maintaining Client ledgers checking no posting errors have taken place and the Client account is never overdrawn
  • Running housekeeping system reports at the end of each day and file electronically
  • Assisting the Finance Manager as requested
  • Complying with solicitor’s accounts rules at all times
  • Dealing with any internal or external enquiries.
  • Making payments from petty cash & reconciliation of petty cash.
  • Filing and general administration duties on a daily basis.
  • Ensuring all Client transactions comply with Solicitors Accounts Rules
  • Additional duties as deemed necessary to support the smooth running of the accounts department and firm.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Legal Cashier experience (2 years) - Client Side.
  • Have an up to date knowledge of solicitor’s accounts rules.
  • Be educated to GCSE standard or equivalent qualification.
  • Be numerate.
  • Have the ability to demonstrate accuracy with work.
  • Have knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Have a good telephone manner.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Be a team player.
  • Knowledge of Partner for Windows.
