Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a dynamic secondary school, based in Hastings. This role involves supporting students with communication difficulties, including ASD and EBSD, and enhancing their literacy skills. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the SEND lead, implementing therapy programmes and contributing to the overall educational and personal development of their students.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Implement agreed therapy programmes, adjusting activities based on student responses and needs.
  • Support the use of ICT in therapy activities to develop students’ competence and independence.
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording, aligning with pre-determined learning objectives.
  • Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports on pupil achievement and progress to the relevant teacher, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
  • Support identified students in subject lessons and contribute to the assessment of students with communication difficulties.
  • Work with parents to provide activity ideas and materials to support their children’s literacy and language development at home.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in supporting students with ASD, EBSD, and communication difficulties.
  • Strong understanding of therapy programmes and strategies for students with special educational needs.
  • Ability to provide detailed feedback and reports effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of speech and language therapy.
