Position Overview:

The candidate will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems and variable speed drives (VSDs) at water treatment works, pumping stations, water supply works and booster stations. This role requires an understanding of electrical and control systems, with particular emphasis on VSDs, PLCs, SCADA systems, and associated electrical infrastructure.

You will work closely with project managers, electrical engineers, and other technical staff to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation & Commissioning:
    • Install and configure control systems, variable speed drives (VSDs) and associated control panels on both fresh and wastewater sites
    • Perform field wiring, cable installation, and termination for control equipment and instrumentation.
    • Commission variable speed drives, ensuring proper configuration for motor control, speed regulation, and system optimization.
    • Conduct on-site testing, troubleshooting, and performance verification of installed systems.
    • Integrate control systems with existing SCADA and telemetry systems for remote monitoring and control.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
    • Diagnose and resolve electrical and control system issues on-site, including VSD-related faults.
    • Perform routine maintenance and repairs to ensure the reliability and longevity of control equipment.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure all installations and commissioning activities comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and company procedures.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement safe working practices during installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate documentation for all installations, configurations, and system modifications.
    • Provide reports on installation and commissioning activities.
    • Collaborate with the engineering team to improve system designs and functionality based on field experience.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years of experience working with controls, automation systems, and variable speed drives (VSDs) in industrial applications, ideally within the water industry or similar sectors.
    • Hands-on experience in installing, configuring, and commissioning VSDs and control panels id highly beneficial.
    • Knowledge of water treatment or pumping systems is highly beneficial.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of electrical and control system principles, with a focus on variable speed drives, pumps and motors.
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and integrate new equipment to an existing system.
    • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • A proactive and flexible approach to work with the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
    • Willingness to travel to client sites and work on various locations.
    • Physically able to carry out a range of industrial electrical installations
