Our clients have an exciting opportunity for an R&D Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team near Havant.

The R&D Engineer will carry out market research and develop new engineering solutions for their clients. Developing industrial mechanical, automation equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Define product specifications for new engineering research projects.
  • Use engineering principles, calculations, and industry-specific design software (CAD, FEA) for design and analysis tasks.
  • Utilise in house tools such as CNC machines, laser cutting and brake press equipment to design, develop and build prototypes that use moving mechanical parts, AC/DC motors, electromagnetic equipment.
  • Collaborate with various departments (manufacturing, quality assurance, marketing) to ensure product viability and alignment with company goals.
  • Experience of working within mature PLM/NPI processes.
  • Maintain thorough records of research, design, testing, and development activities.
  • Investigate failures, participate in design reviews, modify drawings and/or, prepare work packages for others to carry-out as necessary.
  • Consult with manufacturing and fabrication teams to design and develop tooling and processes.
  • Witness and evaluate results from product testing and analyse impact on design.
  • Ensure the validity of product performance criteria through evaluation of marketing requirements, customer feedback, field research, competitive product performance, latest product standards and application of experience.
  • To carry out such additional responsibilities as may be considered necessary by the Management.

Ideal skills & experience:

  • Knowledge of a recognised NPI process
  • Experience working within a mechanical / machinery or automation environment
  • 3D Modelling
  • Design for manufacture experience

Working hours:

Mon to Thurs 08:00-16:30. Fri 08:00-14:30
